P2-B Tanza Container Terminal opens in PEZA ecozone

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) inaugurated on April 25 the P2-billion Tanza Container Terminal Inc. (TCTI) in the MetroCas Industrial Estates - Special Economic Zone (MIE-SEZ) in Cavite, in partnership with Asian Terminals Incorporate (ATI).

The inauguration was graced by PEZA Director General Tereso Panga, DP World Chairman & CEO His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, ATI President Mr. Eusebio Tanco, Tanza Vice Mayor Hon. Archangelo B. Matro, Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Hon. Bienvenido Y. Rubio, and Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Director Ms. Marissa C. Argente, among others.

The four-hectare TCTI, which hopes to become Cavite's "premier trade enabler" and essential supply chain link, has an annual capacity of 100,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs), and a static capacity of 2,500 TEUs.

The facility features a "concrete container yard, docking facilities with harbor cranes supported by reach-stackers, loaders, and internal transfer vehicles among other necessary equipment," according to PEZA.

The TCTI is expected to offer barge terminal services catered to PEZA locator firms. It will have a direct link to the Manila South Harbor to improve container transfers.

The BOC greenlit the terminal's license last March 25.

The terminal is located in the 40.4 hectare-MIE-SEZ, owned by MetroCas Properties, Inc., which was newly proclaimed under PEZA's wing through a registration agreement (RA).

The MIE-SEZ, composed of six parcels of land in Barangay Calibuyo, Tanza, Cavite, was declared on April 1 through the President's Proclaimation No. 513.

"With this Registration Agreement signing [on April 17] comes the fruition of innovative and exemplary ideas of MetroCas Properties Inc., as well as technological advancements dedicated to bringing forth waves of economic growth and development for the country," said Panga.
