The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has provided livelihood assistance to around 314 senior citizens in Metro Manila.
The recipients are the remaining individuals from the 793 senior citizens profiled in the National Capital Region as eligible to receive DOLE's livelihood assistance.
Lawyer Joel P. Petaca, OIC Director II of MFO DOLE-NCR, led the distribution of the livelihood assistance packages worth P9,420,000 each to the beneficiaries.
The department said that the beneficiaries received supplies and starter kits for the livelihood of their choice, including "bigasan" (rice supply store), "Nego-Kart (food cart)," carwash, or carinderia, and tailoring.
"Alam namin na ‘yan [Livelihood Assistance] ang magdudugtong ng inyong buhay kasi kailangan ninyong palaguin at maging productive at naniniwala po kami na ang inyong experience sa buhay ay magagamit po ninyo ‘yan para palaguin ang inyong kabuhayan na ibibigay ng DOLE (We understand that [Livelihood Assistance] plays a crucial role in enhancing your life as it enables you to thrive and contribute productively. We firmly believe that your life experiences can be harnessed to foster the growth of your livelihood, which will be facilitated by DOLE," said Petaca.
Manila 5th District Representative Irwin C. Tieng; NSCS Chairman Franklin M. Quijano; and Samahan ng Nagkakaisang Senior Citizens ng Maynila President, Ms. Necita Salivio, were present during the distribution.
