2 PDLs killed in Maasin City ambush

TACLOBAN CITY – Two Persons Deprived of Liberty were killed and another was wounded by gunmen in Maasin City, Leyte on Tuesday, April 24.

The fatalities were Melchor Maceda and John Paul Siguera and the survivor was Claudio Cortel, all inmates of the Southern Leyte Provincial Jail in Barangay Ichon, Maasin City.

Cortel said they were on their way to the provincial jail on a motorcycle when unidentified gunmen on another motorcycle appeared and shot them.

Cortel and Maceda were found lying by responding lawmen near their motorcycle and Siguera’s body was found in an elevated area nearby.

The victims were taken to a hospital where Maceda was declared dead.

Police are investigating their presence in the area. The provincial jail told police that they escaped.

However, Cortel that they came from a fiesta celebration in Sitio Lumbang in Barangay Ichon.
