Razon-led Manila Water Co. Inc. has passed the stringent requirements set by the Department of Health’s (DOH) Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW).
In a statement, Manila Water said the East Zone concessionaire's compliance with the PNSDW ensures that its 7.6 million customers have access to safe and clean drinking water.
Manila Water said it followed all the rules and regulations set by the PNSDW for sampling surface water treatment facilities throughout the year.
The samples collected from the regulatory sampling points have met the standards for total coliform, physical and chemical levels for water, as of December 2023.
Manila Water has a laboratory and testing facilities that are certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and accredited by the DOH.
These facilities have helped the company achieve a 110.66 percent compliance rate with the government’s standards for testing water treatment works, customer taps, service reservoirs, and pumping stations.
In 2023, Manila Water has tested a total of 85,008 samples, which is higher than the required 76,818 samples set by the PNSDW.
Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communications Affairs Group Director, said that the company prioritizes the health of their customers.
"That is why Manila Water applies utmost diligence when it comes to testing and sampling water from our network,” Sevilla said.
However, Sevilla also appealed to customers to check the integrity of their internal reticulation to ensure that water is safe to drink from their taps.
Manila Water also reminds its customers to always check the quality of the water before drinking. Water should be clear and free of suspended particles and odor.
