Muntinlupa City’s heat index reached 43 degrees Celsius on April 24, considered a danger level by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (DDRM) announced that Muntinlupa’s heat index reached 43 degrees Celsius at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 24.

Under the heat index chart by PAGASA, heat index from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius is likely to cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

“Heat stroke is probable with continued exposure,” PAGASA stated.

On April 23, Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels in public and private schools on April 24 due to the extreme heat index forecast.

He said all classes will shift to asynchronous modality.
