Police Patrolman Khalid Ahmad of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company was manning a checkpoint in Barangay Colonia at around 8 p.m. when he saw two persons on board a motorcycle making a U-turn after spotting the checkpoint.

Sensing that the duo was trying to avoid being inspected at the checkpoint, Ahmad tried to stop them.

The motorcycle passenger shot the victim in the left eye. The suspects sped toward Barangay Campo Uno.

Ahmad was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

The family of Ahmad,  an instructor of the Mindanao Autonomous College Foundation Inc., received messages of sympathy on social media.

“Patrolman Khalid Ahmad, affectionately known as ‘Kalapati,’ his enduring spirit, which always radiated joy, laughter, and inspiration, will forever be cherished by our community,” said the school in their social media page.

Police are conducting pursuit and follow-up investigation.
