2 sisters drown in Ilocos Sur irrigation canal

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur – Two sisters drowned in an irrigation canal in Barangay Bulag here on Wednesday afternoon, April 24.

Police Corporal Roxanne Angela Padre, investigator of the Bantay police station, identified the victims as Judelyn, 7, and Princess, 5, both surnamed Pido, residents of Barangay Naguiddayan, Bantay.

Investigation said the mother of the victims had just left and were playing and swimming on the irrigation canal when they were swept away by strong water current and drowned.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) recovered the victims and taken to a hospital where they were declared dead.

Police said no foul play was involved in the incident.
