Too hot! PAGASA records heat index of 48°C in Aparri, Cagayan


The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a “dangerous” heat index of 48°C was recorded in Aparri, Cagayan on Tuesday, April 23.

Based on the daily heat index report of PAGASA, Aparri, Cagayan succeeded Roxas City, Capiz, where a heat index of 48°C was recorded, the highest heat index being felt in the country since 2024. 

PAGASA said on Tuesday, April 23, that Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and Sangley Point, Cavite had felt a heat index of 47°C. 

In San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station in Pili, Camarines Sur; and Guiuan, Eastern Samar a heat index of 46°C was felt. 

PAGASA also recorded a heat index of 45°C in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) station in Pasay City; Cubi Pt. Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Masbate City, Masbate; and Tacloban City, Leyte. 

Meanwhile, Coron, Palawan; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Aborlan, Palawan; Virac, Catanduanes; Legazpi City, Albay; Roxas City, Capiz; and Iloilo City, Iloilo had a heat index of 44°C. 

In PAGASA Science Garden, Quezon City; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Central Luzon State University (CLSU) station in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Baler, Aurora; Casiguran, Aurora, Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas; Alabat, Quezon; Dumangas, Iloilo; La Granja, La Carlota; Negros Occidental; and Catarman, Northern Samar a heat index of 43°C had been experienced. 

PAGASA also recorded a heat index of 42°C at Isabela State University (ISU) station in Echague, Isabela; Iba, Zambales; Daet, Camarines Norte; and Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental.
