The Philippine subsidiary of Japanese electronic giant Murata Inc. has renewed its power supply agreement (PSA) with Lopez-led First Gen Corporation for the provision of electricity services at its manufacturing facility in Batangas.
First Gen emphasized that the supply to be delivered to Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata Inc. (PMM) will be drawn from the Bacon-Manito geothermal power facility, which is operated by its subsidiary Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in the Bicol region.
“The supply deal is aligned with the commitment of the Japan-based electronics giant to shift electricity used in all its factories and offices around the world to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050,” First Gen said.

The PSA renewal serves as a follow through to the first supply pact that First Gen and PMM had cemented way back in 2021.
PMM, which is focused into production of multilayer ceramic capacitors used for electric vehicles and 6G communications technology, has sited at the First Philippine Industrial Park (FPIP) economic zone of the Lopez group in Santo Tomas, Batangas its biggest manufacturing facility in the Southeast Asian region.
According to First Gen President and Chief Operating Officer Francis Giles Puno, the supply pact between the two firms entails that they “are not just reducing emissions but also shaping a future where environmental responsibility and growth go hand in hand.”
It was conveyed that PMM’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality “is part of countermeasures it has adopted against climate change.”
PMM President Masayoshi Koda said “the renewal of our supply agreement with First Gen highlights our companies’ decarbonization and sustainability goals.”
He added that while their company works on seizing the business opportunity on growing demand for components that support emerging technologies, “we want to do so in a manner that is cost-efficient, best in class, and carbon-neutral.”
First Gen stated that PMM is the first overseas facility of Murata; and since 2022, it has already been leaning on 100-percent renewable energy (RE) for its operations.
“Aside from using geothermal energy, the plant harnesses power from over 6,700 solar panels installed at its facility with a capacity to generate close to 3,000 kilowatts (kW) of electricity,” the power firm expounded.
Beyond drawing power supply from RE, PMM is also employing ‘comprehensive environmental management program’ through the chain of its operations, hence, prompting it to opt for materials with low environmental impacts – including increased use of recycled inputs.
Additionally, First Gen noted that its subsidiary Pi Energy Inc. has been providing added solutions that enable PMM to “lower the risk of unforeseen power interruption – a hitch that can be detrimental to the sensitive equipment and production lines of electronic component makers.”
