The Department of Education (DepEd) clarified on Tuesday, April 23, that the reported deaths of two teachers in Iloilo were not related to heat stroke but due to other illnesses.

“According to the Schools Division Office concerned, no teachers died from heatstroke,” DepEd said in an official statement.

DepEd issued the statement in response to a Facebook post claiming that two teachers died from heatstroke while conducting classes.

“This post is highly inaccurate and misleading,” DepEd emphasized.

Referring to its official records, DepEd mentioned that one of its teachers in Sta. Barbara passed away in February 2024 due to Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease. Another teacher, DepEd noted, passed away in March 2024 due to Aneurysm.

“In both instances, the teachers were reportedly at home,” DepEd added.

As DepEd stressed the importance of "true and factual reporting," it also extended condolences to the bereaved families of the teachers.
