Falling boulder crushes housewife to death

ATIMONAN, Quezon – A 37-year-old housewife was crushed to death by a falling boulder in a quarry site in Sitio Pansol, Barangay Sokol here on April 16.

Police identified the victim as Mary, 37, a resident of Sitio Pansol.

Investigation said Norberto, the victim’s live-in partner, was operating a backhoe on top of a mountain and radioed his helper, Yael Villaruel, to clear the area.

Villaruel saw Mary resting on a hammock and asked her to leave but she ignored him.

Suddenly, a boulder rolled down from a height of about 30 meters and crushed her.

Mary sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lucena City but died on April 17.

Norberto, accompanied by Villaruel, reported the incident to the police here on Sunday, April 21.

The area was a quarry site for road construction materials.

Police also found out that there was no safety officer and safety equipment provided by the contractor of the quarry.
