Local officials of La Trinidad, Benguet warmly welcomed House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Sunday, April 21, as the Marcos administration’s flagship Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair (BPSF) rolled its way to the the northern province. 

So warm was the welcome they prepared for the Visayan that they even gifted him copy of the resolution from the local Sangguniang Bayan (SB), which him as the town’s adopted son. 

Resolution No. 69-2024--adopted by the municipal board during its regular meeting on March 26, 2024--also bestowed the name “Batakagan,” meaning “Brightest Star” to Speaker Romualdez. 

“Resolved as it is hereby done, to declare the House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez, as an adopted son of the Municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet Province and bestowed with the name “Batakagan” (Brightest Star),” read the resolution that was handed to the House leader by La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda. 

The SB said the people of La Trinidad were very much honored to welcome Romualdez, who was in the municipality Sunday to lead the launch in the province of the BPSF. 

“His noble intention and effort to visit and show support to the constituents of the municipality of La Trinidad deserve recognition worthy as a son,” the resolution read. 

The resolution noted that aside from overseeing the legislative function of Congress he also conceptualized and spearheaded the BPSF--“a groundbreaking event aimed at revolutionizing public service in the Philippines, showcasing innovative approaches to improve government efficiency and responsiveness". 

“Bringing together various government agencies private sector partners, and community organizations, the fair serves as a platform for interactive exhibits, workshops, and discussions focusing on engagement, digital transformation, and inclusive governance,” the resolution said. 

It added that through initiatives such as streamlined bureaucratic processes, digital service delivery platforms, and proactive citizen feedback mechanisms, the all-encompassing service caravan aims to foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and excellence in public service delivery, ultimately empowering Filipinos and driving socio-economic development across the nation. 

In his message at the start of the event, Benguet lone district Rep. Eric Go Yap noted that even before the BPSF was conceptualized, the Speaker had been providing various forms of assistance to the people of the province. 

It was also during the event that Romualdez led the launch of the Cash and Rice Distribution (CARD) program at the Benguet Sports Complex.
