Rookie Faida Bakanke continued her strong showing to lead Far Eastern University past University of the Philippines, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday, April 20, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Bakanke unloaded a game-high 19 points scattered on 16 attacks, two blocks and one service ace, for the Lady Tamaraws, who needed an extra set before zooming to their fifth straight win for a 9-4 card to stay in contention for one of the twice-to-beat bonuses.
After their second round loss to defending champion De La Salle last March 23, FEU has not dropped a set so far including a massive upset win over University of Santo Tomas.
The Lady Tamaraws will cap the eliminations against the peaking National University Lady Bulldogs side next week where a victory would strengthen their bid for a semis incentive.
However, FEU also has to hope that La Salle, NU and UST, which share identical 10-2 records, would lose their respective matches.
Chen Tagaod had 13 markers for the Lady Tamaraws, while wing spikers Alyzza Devosora, Mitzi Panangin and middle blocker Jean Asis all added nine points each in the balanced attack.
“Siguro nakaka-boost talaga ng morale ‘yung panalo kami against UST so nag-level up yung midset nila. So ‘yung preparation namin naging maganda. Sa training pa lang. Hopefully matapos yung second round in favor of us and makabawi kami sa NU,” said NU coach Manolo Refugia.
Meanwhile, Steph Bustrillo scored 16 points highlighted by 14 attacks for UP, which absorbed its fifth straight defeat for 1-11.
