De Lima to VP Duterte: 'Resign or tell your family to stop its destabilization'

This was how former senator Leila de Lima described Vice President Sara Duterte, whom she advised on Saturday, April 20 to either resign as Department of Education (DepEd) secretary and join her own family in criticizing President Marcos, or condemn anti-administration rallies if she wants to remain in the Marcos Cabinet.

"She is having her cake and eating it too. Namamangka sa dalawang ilog," De Lima said of Duterte.

There have been calls for Duterte to resign from her position as DepEd chief after First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos criticized her for her recent actions.

"Her loyalties are very clear. They remain with her family who have called [President] BBM (Bongbong Marcos) names and called for his ouster," De Lima said in an interview.

She added that the Vice President should resign, or ask her family members to stop their "destabilization".

On Friday, the First Lady was quoted as saying that Vice President Duterte crossed the line when the latter laughed as her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, called President Marcos "bangag" (stoned) in a rally in Davao City last January.

Araneta-Marcos says she's no hypocrite, and has admitted to ignoring the Vice President whenever they were in the same event because of the incident.

De Lima said that for the elder Duterte, there is no such thing as crossing the line.

"Wala namang line line kay Duterte (There's no line to cross for Duterte). A man who does not see anything wrong in killing people has no line to cross. Anything goes dyan kay (when it comes to) Duterte," she said.

"If there is any line for Duterte vis-a-vis BBM, he has crossed it a long time ago the moment he told the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) their commander-in-chief is an addict," she added.

Asked whether the Vice President should continue to attend rallies such as the one in Davao City, De Lima replied: "She has a choice. Join the rallies but resign, or don't resign but condemn the rallies and tell her family to stop."

The Vice President also attended an anti-administration prayer rally in Manila last March 12.
