CAMP FLORENDO, La Union – Police Regional Office-1 chief Police Brig. Gen. Lou F. Evangelista said the Holy Week in Region 1 or the Ilocos region was generally peaceful.

However, nine drowning incidents – seven in Pangasinan and two in Ilocos Sur – and five vehicular accidents were recorded during the Holy Week from March 25 to 31.
The fatalities in Pangasinan were from Binmaley, San Fabian, San Manuel, Anda, and Mangatarem. In Ilocos Sur, fatalities were from Santa Cruz and Candon City.
Two persons were rescued from drowning in Binmaley and Santa Cruz. An individual who drowned on the Agno River in Rosales, Pangasinan is still missing.
About 1,000 police personnel were deployed during the Holy Week in the region in places of convergence.
Fifty wanted persons, 20 drug pushers, 13 illegal gamblers, and 10 communist rebels were arrested and surrendered from March 25 to 31.
Evangelista commended his men for their invaluable dedication in ensuring the peaceful observance of the Holy Week.
The influx of tourists visiting the region has prompted PRO-1 to maximize the implementation of “Ligtas Sumvac 2024” starting March 25.
