PAGASA advises bringing water bottle, umbrella due to ongoing hot weather

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reminded the public on Tuesday, April 2, to bring water and an umbrella when going out, as hot weather is expected to persist.

In its public forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Rhea Torres said rain is still unlikely, and that hot and humid weather will prevail throughout the country.

“Wala tayong namamataan na makakapal na kaulapan na posibleng magdala ng maghapon na mga pag-ulan sa anomang bahagi ng ating kapuluan kaya inaasahan natin ngayong araw, magpapatuloy iyong mainit at maalinsangang panahon sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa liban na lamang iyong mga tyansa ng isolated o pulo-pulong pag-ulan kadalasan sa hapon o gabi (We do not observe cloud clusters that may bring all-day rains to any parts of the country, therefore, we expect today, the continuous prevalence of hot and humid weather except for chances of isolated rains in the afternoon until the evening),” Torres said. 

Over the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. 

PAGASA warned the public of flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms. 

Meanwhile, based on the PAGASA’s extended weather outlook from March 28 to 30, the actual air temperatures in some key areas are 24–34°C in Metro Manila, 24-32° in Legazpi City, 17–27°C in Baguio City, 26–33°C in Metro Cebu, 26–33°C in Iloilo City, 25–32°C in Tacloban City, 24–34°C in Metro Davao, 24–35°C in Zamboanga City, and 25–32°C in Cagayan de Oro City. 

Heat index forecast

PAGASA said “dangerous” heat indices may be felt in 13 areas on Wednesday, April 3. 

The highest heat index possible is 44°C in Roxas City, Capiz, followed by a 43°C heat index in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Pasay City; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Aparri, Cagayan; Aborlan, Palawan; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station in Pili, Camarines Sur; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Dumangas, Iloilo. 

PAGASA also said heat index may reach 42°C in the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City; Sangley Point, Cavite; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa Palawan; and Catarman, Northern Samar.
