Jerusalem eyes unification bout vs Collazo

Newly-crowned WBC minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem is ready for another tough challenge as he eyes a rematch against Puerto Rican standout Oscar Collazo for a unification bout.

It can be remembered that Collazo knocked out Jerusalem in the seventh round of their duel last year to capture the WBO minimumweight belt.
Now is the perfect time to avenge his loss.
“Kung bibigyan ako ng chance gusto kong makakuha ng ibang belt,” Jerusalem told on Tuesday’s PSA Forum at the Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila
“Gusto kong makabawi, sayang 'di tayo nakadepensa. Kaya pagbubutihan ko talaga para mabawi,” he added.
Jerusalem put a dent on Japanese Yudai Shigeoka's record with a split decision win Sunday night to take home the WBC belt and become the only Filipino boxing champion as of the moment.
After the fight, Collazo called out Jerusalem for a rematch.
“Congrats for being a champ again. You know we ready for that unification. I’m calling out when and where??,” Collazo posted on his social media account.
Jerusalem’s manager JC Manangquil of Sanman Boxing also stressed their readiness for a second showdown against the Puerto Rican. However, the fight might not happen in the next few months if Shigeoka's manager intends to offer a rematch.
“If there’s a shot for unification, we’re ready,” Manangquil said. “May option yung promoter ng dating champion if they want a rematch."
Aside from Collazo, Knockout CP Freshmart of Thailand is the long-time WBA champion, while Yudai’s younger brother Ginjero Shigeoka owns the IBF belt.
For now, Jerusalem will be going to Cebu this weekend before proceeding to his native province Bukidnon for a well-deserved break.
