At a glance

  • I don’t know whatGeneration Z’s meaning of a relationship is, but in the eyes of aGeneration X’er, they look like a couple. Again, I may be wrong. They may be very, very, very goodfriends. Hahaha!

Actor Marco Gallo has opened up about fake people with rehearsed answers in local showbiz industry.

“I was a fat kid from Italy, bullied and shat on, kids telling me I was never going to make it in anything I do. I never thought I would make it as an actor in the Philippines. I came from Italy and had never thought of doing this job.  I always see many people in this business who are quite fake with rehearsed answers. I used to not like show business because of it. I thought showbiz was not the fit for me. But I thought and asked myself-- how can I make a difference in this business? How can I try to make it independently and not copy others? I just wanted to be myself. I am just bringing up who I am.  I want people to know that I am very private and like being with myself… but I am a trusted friend in my circle. I might not be the brightest and smartest, but I can be the person you can count on," said Marco.

This “circle of friends” definitely included Heaven Peralejo, his love team partner, on screen, and I also have a feeling offscreen. Although the two have never announced to the public that they are an official couple, working with them in their fourth project, “Men are from QC and Women are from Alabang,” is like watching two ants – sweetness overload! They hold hands off-screen, eat together, and hang with each other off-cam.

I don’t know what Generation Z’s meaning of a relationship is, but in the eyes of a  Generation X’er, they look like a couple. Again, I may be wrong. They may be very, very, very good friends. Hahaha!

I asked Marco to tell me about Heaven and their fourth project together, “This is probably the best project I got in my entire showbiz career. It’s a character so different from me.  In real life, I am usually the mysterious quiet guy. My character here is a funny guy, especially around Aika, played by Heaven.  The story is relatable.  I cried when I read the script. I am excited to do the difficult scenes. It’s lots of work, but director Gino Santos is very helpful, so I am confident I can bring the character justice.

As a bullied kid myself talking to another bullied kid, I asked Marco what he could say about the kids that made fun of him back then and told him that he was never going to make it, “I transferred here from Italy when I was 18 years old, and I have been living alone without my family to guide me since then. So you can say I am self-taught from eighteen up to now. So I am not sure if this is the best approach since I don’t have the guidance of my mother and father in this field—but my approach is revenge --- ok you guys shat on me; you guys told me before that I was never going to make it, that I was never going to be anybody… watch me! What I have achieved now reminds me of how far I have come.

"Men are from QC and Women are from Alabang" will be shown in the month of May. This movie is based on the novel by Stanley Chi with the same title.
