Gilas Women's Jhaz Joson signs with NBL1 club Goldfields Giants

Joson just capped a brilliant stint with the Nationals alongside Camille Clarin, Mikka Cacho and Kaye Pingol a few days prior in the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup where they reached the quarterfinals before falling short against Chinese Taipei.

“Giants sign Filipino rising star Joson. A week out from the start of their season, the Northern Star Resources Goldfields Giants women's team has bolstered their roster with the inclusion of Filipino player Jhazmin Joson,” the post read. 

With both traditional 5x5 and 3x3 experience across Asia and beyond, Joson is expected to help carry the fight for Goldfields. 

Interestingly, the Ateneo standout is following in the footsteps of fellow national team member Jack Animam, who will be taking her well-travelled pro career in the Australian league with Ringwood Hawks after four prior stints abroad. 

Both players will be suiting up as imports for different squads in the 2024 season which just recently kicked off with the Giants opening their campaign with back-to-back matches on April 6 and 7 in Perth before taking their home stand a week later. 

During the 24-year-old’s final year in the UAAP, Joson played the most minutes for the Blue Eagles who made a Final Four appearance in Season 86 before yielding to finalist National University Lady Bulldogs in the semifinal clash. 

In Joson’s swan song in the collegiate rank, she averaged 10.57 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.71 assists per game in the eliminations.
