The 30-year-old Ubas leaped 7.58 meters in the final round to give the Philippines its second mint following Leonard Grospe's bronze medal finish in men’s high jump.

Ubas, a SEAG gold medalist and national record holder, beat Chinese Taipei’s Wen Hua-Yu (7.43m) and Singapore’s Ivan Mun (7.26m), who settled for silver and bronze medal, respectively.

The Misamis Oriental pride is eyeing to secure a Paris berth, but he needs to reach or surpass the Olympic standard of 8.27m.

He is set to join the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships at the PhilSports Track and Field Oval in Pasig City next month, which is a World Athletics-sanctioned event.
