The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 12 locations may have a “dangerous” heat index, with the highest at 44 degrees Celsius (℃), on Friday afternoon, April 19.
PAGASA said Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas and Aborlan, Palawan may experience a heat index of 44℃.
Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Sangley Point, Cavite; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Roxas City, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Dumangas, Iloilo may register a heat index of 43℃, while Bacnotan, La Union; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) station, Pili, Camarines Sur; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte may have a heat index of 42℃.
PAGASA defines the heat index as the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.
It said a heat index ranging from 42 to 51°C indicates imminent “danger,” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.”
