The trade visit to Malaysia next week by leading Philippine agriculture will support the country’s goal to achieve food security, Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion said on Thursday, April 18.

Concepcion, who is also the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Philippines chair, will lead the Philippine delegation that will meet with Malaysia's leading agriculture organizations from April 22 to 24 in Kuala Lumpur.
He underscored the meeting’s critical role in forwarding the Philippines’ goal of ensuring food security not only for itself, but for its regional neighbors.
“This will benefit not just the agriculture industries of both our countries but also puts us on a path toward developing cooperative relationships within the public and private sectors to ensure food security for the region,” he said.
“We will learn from each other and facilitate market linkages so that we can be a more productive, food-producing, self-reliant region. Starting with Malaysia, we will forge partnerships with the agri companies of the other ASEAN member states,” the official added.
The event will be just in time for the 100th meeting of the ASEAN-BAC, and is a direct outcome of the Philippines’s efforts to forge partnerships between the agriculture companies of the ASEAN member-states.
The three-day visit by the Philippine delegation will involve a series of meetings meant to initiate strategic partnerships, exchange best practices and experiences in technology, expand market access, and diversify agricultural enterprises in the Philippines and Malaysia.
They are set to visit plantations and manufacturing sites around Malaysia to further explore other possible partnerships.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on agarwood production technology will also be signed during the visit.
The trade visit follows the signing last year of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) initiated by the ASEAN BAC Philippines with ASEAN BAC Malaysia.
The signing, which was witnessed by President Marcos in Kuala Lumpur, saw the two countries agreeing to engage in promoting trade, investment, and other development partnerships in agriculture.
Similar cooperation activities between ABAC Philippines and all the other signatories of the MOU—Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Laos, and Thailand—are also expected in the future.
Concepcion will be joined by former Agriculture secretary and Go Negosyo Senior Adviser Dr. William Dar and Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Ma. Angela Ponce.
Major Philippine agricultural companies that will join the delegation include Kennemer Country, Lionheart Farms, Bounty Fresh, Philippine Rice Industry Stakeholders Movement, Yovel East, LT Group, I’mpact Foods, Iba Botanicals, BioPrime, Universal Leaf, Highly Succeed, RFM, and YTMI Realty.
The Malaysian delegation will be led by ABAC Malaysia Chairman Tan Sri Nazir Razak and B2B Connect Initiative (BCI) chairman and former Malaysia trade minister Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed. They will lead a group of Malaysian companies engaged in rice, durian, pineapple, poultry, coconut, banana, agarwood, rubber, and palm oil production.
