Economic czar urges private partners to invest in John Hay

After the recent legal dispute between the state-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and leaseholder CJH Development Corp. (CJHDevCo), Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick D. Go calls on private sector partners to seek investment in Camp John Hay.

In a statement on Thursday, April 18, Go said that the recently settled dispute would unlock the John Hay Special Economic Zone’s (John Hay SEZ) prospects.

“This development will enable the government to unleash the full potential of the John Hay Special Economic Zone and spur inclusive economic opportunities for northern Luzon,” he added.

This stemmed from the Supreme Court’s announcement that states CJHDevCo will vacate a portion of the John Hay SEZ that was leased from the development authority.

“With this, we invite private sector partners to look into John Hay as an ideal investment hub in the northern region for commerce, eco-tourism, and leisure,” he shared.

According to Go, the recent arbitral ruling reflects the Marcos administration’s directive to promote investments and support ecozones by inviting industries outside Metro Manila.

Last week, the BCDA ordered the CJHDevCo to vacate a portion of Camp John Hay in Baguio City to be able to pursue military base conversion.
