With the approval, a major showdown between Veloso and current Rep. Richard Gomez in next year's elections is in the offing.
Veloso had declared that he was transferring his voter’s registration from Villaba to Isabel, which is under the fourth district of Leyte, to challenge Gomez in 2025.
Veloso’s application for transfer of voter’s registration was opposed by one Rhodora Basilio.
Members of the Election Registration Board (ERB) of Comelec-Isabel convened on April 15 to resolve the petition.
Basilio and Veloso were present during the hearing.
Prior to the hearing, the ERB conducted an inspection at the residence of Veloso. Basillio was not around during the ocular inspection.
The ERB went on to resolve the case in favor of Veloso, a former Supreme Court associate justice.
The ERB resolved that Veloso met all the requirements to register as a voter under the Republic Act 8189 or The Voter’s Registration Act of 1996.
“After presentation of evidence and hearing both sides, the Board unanimously decided to approve the application of herein respondent after establishing his residence in Barangay Mahayag, Isabel, Leyte,” the resolution of the ERB headed by Election Officer III Maria Sarah Lanugan said.
