Bohol's very own drug rehabilitation center forthcoming

CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol will soon have its own drug rehabilitation center.

The plan to put up a drug rehabilitation center was discussed when Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. visited the province recently.

“One of the things that we discussed is the drug situation not just in Bohol but in the entire country. We both agreed to set up a drug rehabilitation center in the province because the Department of the Interior and Local Government also have a program for drug abuse treatment and rehab center,” said Gov. Aris Aumentado.

Among those who attended the meeting were officials from the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police, Department of Education, and the Diocese of Tagbilaran City and Talibon.

Aumentado said the province currently has a facility called Bohol Youth Home which can be converted into a drug rehabilitation center.

“This facility has become a white elephant. This has not been used so we will convert it into a drug rehab center but we have to seek approval from the Provincial Board,” said Aumentado.

Aumentado added that Abalos was elated with the plan to put up a drug rehabilitation center in Bohol and vowed to provide necessary assistance.

“I asked for support from Secretary Abalos especially when it comes to doctors who will supervise the center. They will provide doctors who specialize in this and the Department of Health will also support us,” said Aumentado.

Aumentado said they are eyeing to have the drug rehabilitation center operational within the year.
