Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney fired back at Hollywood producer Carol Baum, who claimed that the actress was not pretty and could not act despite being a breakout star in the famous Hollywood projects "Anyone But You" and "The White Lotus."
In a statement shared with Variety, Sweeney's representative expressed disappointment in Baum's choice to attack another woman instead of using her position to share her expertise. The statement also questioned the appropriateness of Baum’s teaching methods and her character, given her unjust disparagement of a fellow female producer.
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman. If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful. To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum’s character," the statement read, published in variety.com.
According to a report by pagesix.com, Baum made the comments at the Jacob Burns Center in Pleasantville, NY, last week.
“I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,” said Baum, producer of the hit movie Father of the Bride and its sequel.
Baum said she realized this after watching Sweeney’s latest film, “Anyone But You,” on an airplane. She also described the rom-com as "unwatchable."
The producer further revealed that her students at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts couldn’t give a satisfactory reason why the 26-year-old star is so sought after, the same report added. “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty; she can’t act. Why is she so hot?'” Nobody had an answer."
Baum admitted uncertainty about turning down a movie production involving her.
“We all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made," said Baum, in a report by the popular entertainment website.
