FEU turns back UE for fourth straight win in second round

Far Eastern University zoomed to its fourth straight win in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament with a 25-19, 25-15, 22-25, 25-16 win over University of the East on Wednesday night, April 17, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After losing to defending champion De La Salle Lady Spikers in the second round opener last March 23, the Lady Tamaraws have since won every single fixture including a massive win over University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses last week as they continuously gain significant confidence heading into the Final Four.

While the top three sides National University, UST and La Salle all share similar records of 10-2 in the standings, FEU kept its slim twice-to-beat bid alive with an 8-4 card.

Chenie Tagaod unleashed a season-high 22 points built on 19 attacks, one block and one service ace to boost the peaking FEU’s fighting chance for the semifinals edge.

Gerzel Petallo and Faida Bakanke contributed equally important numbers with 14 and 10 markers, respectively.

Already-ran UE side hasn’t picked up itself as it suffered four losses in a row for a 2-10 slate in the standings.

Casiey Dongallo, who scored her career-high 30-piece in UE’s first round loss to FEU last Feb. 25, paced the former with 17 points.

Riza Nogales split 10 markers on five attacks and five kill blocks in the losing effort.
