BACOLOD CITY - A 58-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband’s brother-in-law inside her house in Barangay 10, Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, April 16.
Police identified the victim as Emily Lorega.
Based on police investigation, the victim was feeding her four-year-old grandson, when the 54-year-old village watchman, who was reportedly drunk, entered her house and confronted her, while armed with a .357 magnum caliber revolver.
Police Capt. Genus David, deputy chief of Victorias City Police Station, said the victim and the suspect then figured in a heated argument until the latter shot her.
David said that some of their relatives and neighbors heard them arguing allegedly over money, and some personal matters.
The victim suffered a lone gunshot wound in the chest and was declared dead in a hospital.
Recovered from the crime scene were three fired bullets, two misfired ammunition, and two slugs of the said firearm. No other injuries were reported.
David said the suspect left the weapon at his house before fleeing from the scene.
Prior to this incident, David said the suspect visited the victim twice that day, but it was only that night that he went violent.
Police are looking into jealousy or money problem as possible motives behind the incident.
David said they received information that the suspect was allegedly jealous of the victim’s relationship, but they could not confirm it.
He said the victim’s husband was working in this city, when the incident happened.
Murder charges will be filed against the suspect, whose name was withheld by the police.
