Municipal gov't stops construction of contentious fence in Minglanilla, Cebu
CEBU CITY—Authorities in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu, ordered a former town official to stop the construction of a fence at a property that has affected at least 200 residents.
The property in Barangay Calajoan where the fence was constructed is owned by former Minglanilla vice mayor Loben Geonzon.
The town’s Office of the Building Official (OBO) and Municipal Planning and Development Office issued notices of illegal development and illegal construction after it was found out that the construction had no fencing permit.
During the serving of the stoppage order on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, Geonzon warned OBO personnel that he would take legal action if the construction was stopped.
Some residents also became wary when armed security guards arrived in the area supposedly to secure the construction.
The municipal government has reportedly issued two notices seeking the stoppage of the construction until the order was formally enforced on Tuesday.
