DAVAO CITY – The Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) expelled on Monday, April 15, Davao del Norte Vice Gov. Carlo “Oyo” Uy, Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy, Davao de Oro Vice Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy, and Davao de Oro first district Rep. Maricar Zamora.

The HNP, a regional political party established in 2018 by Vice President Sara Duterte to back the Duterte administration, stated on Monday evening through social media, declaring the expulsion of the four public officials who ran under the party’s banner in the 2022 elections.

“We regret to announce that the membership of these officials has been terminated. The decision comes in light of recent events and actions that have been found to conflict with our party’s core principles and policies,” the HNP said in their official statement.

HNP expressed gratitude to the four officials for their contributions and efforts during their time as valued political party members. It added that the HNP appreciated their participation, and that the party did not arrive at the decision lightly.

“We understand that such changes can be challenging, and we wish to assure you that this decision was reached only after careful review of our party’s commitment to maintaining faithful public service. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors,” it said.

HNP vowed to continue to uphold respect for the dignity of men, and that government resources will always be tools of service for all. It is expecting the courtesy resignation of other members of the HNP in the coming days as it continues its preparation for the upcoming elections.

HNP released the statement a day after the Hakbang ng Maisug prayer rally was held in Davao del Norte province, an event that allegedly the Uy family attempted to stop from happening, resulting in the preventive suspension order to Gov. Edwin Jubahib.

Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy, however, denied the allegations. He said in a press conference that he boosted the rally preparations by activating an emergency medical team and requesting military support to reinforce police for peace and security through the rally.

“You know, this is politics, and people will say different things in politics. Actually, [people] will not just say different things but will create and, at the same time, will fabricate,” Davao del Norte Acting Gov. Carlo “Oyo” Uy said, referring to Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez’s earlier statement against them.

VP Duterte earlier revealed to the Davao media that there was a discussion between Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a Davao City-based political organization founded by then mayor and president Rodrigo Duterte, and HNP in preparation for the 2025 elections.
