The University of Perpetual Help is putting a premium on its sports programs as the school's 50th anniversary coincides with the NCAA's centennial season next year.
Looking forward to a big celebration that is aligned to the collegiate league's milestone, the Altas will give priority in honing their student-athletes who are anticipating a major battle especially in the basketball competition.
"We are celebrating our 49th year and this is leading to our 50th year in what we call our 'Road to Gold' in 2025,” Perpetual Vice President for Academic Affairs Dra. Marjorie Gutierrez-Tangog told the PSA Forum on Tuesday, April 16, at the Rizal Memorial Complex in Manila.
“Nagsimula na yan this year and unti-unti na naming ni-launch like our alumnus taking an active role in our sports program like in the case of Scottie (Thompson), who is now part of the coaching staff of the men’s basketball team,” she added.
Thompson sits as the Altas team manager in men’s basketball while Olsen Racela serves as the head coach. Perpetual narrowly missed the Final Four in Season 99 after placing fifth with a 10-9 record.
In other events, Perpetual has ruled the men’s chess and beach volleyball, and women’s table tennis this season.
