Influx of Chinese students to universities in Tuguegarao, Cagayan approved by CHED -- Gov Mamba

CAGAYAN – Governor Manuel Mamba said that the influx of foreign students in the city of Tuguegarao is not a program of the Cagayan provincial government, but is an initiative of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

 

This was the statement made by Mamba on Monday during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the Cagayan capitol. 

 

Mamba denied that the provincial government was behind the influx of the Chinese students in Cagayan.

 

Cagayan, particular the city of Tuguegarao, is considered an educational center in the country with four large universities in addition to various colleges.

 

"This is not our program, this a program of the National Government. This is a program of CHED. Why? Because before they give autonomy to our universities and one of the requirements is internationalization. Ibig sabihin, invite, makipagtulungan sa other countries as far as education is concerned. Invite foreign students. That is not the program of Manny Mamba. That's the program of the National Government. Hindi naman papasok yan na illegal. They are all with their student visas,"  Mamba said. 

 

He said that, while there has been a large number of foreign students being enrolled in the local universities, no complaint has been received against them.

 

He said there was nothing to be afraid of, and noted that their presence in Cagayan was a good step to introduce the city and the province to other countries.

 

"I asked the police, the COP (Chief of Police) and the PD, if there are any complaints that have been blotter but nothing recorded. " said Gov. Mamba

 

Earlier, 3rd District Congressman Jojo Lara filed a resolution in the House to investigate the alleged influx of Chinese students in Tuguegarao.
