"A calculated attempt to destabilize the government".
This, according to House Assistant Majority Leader Zambales 1st district Rep. Jefferson Khonghun, is the "true motive" behind Davao del Norte 1st district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez's call for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to withdraw support from President Marcos amid the escalating tension in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“Former Speaker Alvarez must be held accountable for his actions, and charges should be filed against him to ensure that justice is served,” Khonghun said in a statement Tuesday, April 16.
Khonghun was reacting to Alvarez's remarks during the peace rally in Tagum City over the weekend wherein the latter made his controversial appeal to the AFP to abandon Marcos.
He described Alvarez's message to the country’s soldiers as “not merely an expression of dissent but a calculated attempt to destabilize the government".

“We cannot allow individuals to undermine the democratic process and manipulate government institutions for their own political gain," the Zambales lawmaker said.
Khonghun warned that the ex-Speaker's “reckless statements threaten the very fabric of our democracy".
“We must stand firm against any attempts to subvert the will of the people and uphold the rule of law,” he said.
