Zamboanga City gears up for ZPRAA Meet


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 8,000 young athletes from Zamboanga Peninsula are expected to converge here next week to participate in this year’s Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Athletic Association (ZPRAA) Meet.

Seven contingents, including technical officials, are expected to arrive this week from municipalities and cities in the Zamboanga Peninsula to participate in the games from April 21 to 27 at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

A grand program is being prepared by the city government to open the games.

City Sports Officer Cecile Atilano said during a press briefing on Monday, April 15, that participants composed of coaches, sports officials, and student-athletes will come from Zamboanga City, Isabela City, Dipolog City and Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

The young athletes coming from elementary and secondary schools will be billeted in different elementary and secondary schools here.

The athletes will compete in at least 25 sporting events. 

Atilano said a team from the organizing committee here is continuously conducting inspections to ensure that the venue for the competition and places where the students will be billeted are prepared.

Basilio Uy, Officer-in-Charge -City Schools Division, said accommodations are 95 percent ready.
