Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin has revealed that his management initially planned to have a different stage name when he entered show business.
Ricky made the revelation during an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show recently.
Kelly told Ricky: "You were initially going to use a different stage name."
Ricky answered: "So, my name is Enrique. And the nickname for Enrique is Kike or Kiki.
"But they told me in some places in Asia, Kiki means vagina.
"So I wasn't gonna be Vagina Martin. I was not pretty," said Ricky, as Kelly and the audience laughed.
Incidentally, in the Philippines, kiki means vagina. Watch the full interview:
Ricky, 52, rose to fame when he joined the popular boy group Menudo from 1984 to 1989.
In 1999, he found international solo stardom upon releasing his first English album "Ricky Martin."
The lead track from the album "Livin La Vida Loca" topped the charts in more than 20 countries and is considered Ricky's biggest hit.
In 2018, Ricky married Swedish-Syrian artist Jwan Yosef. However, they announced their divorce in 2023. The couple has two children and they have come to a decision to co-parent them in order to provide the best upbringing possible.
