Heat index in 13 areas may reach 'danger' level on April 15

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 13 areas in the country may have “dangerous” heat indices on Monday, April 15.

PAGASA said a heat index of 45°C may be experienced in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, followed by a heat index of 44°C in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

A heat index of 43°C may also be recorded in Aparri, Cagayan, said PAGASA.

Meanwhile, areas including Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Pasay City; Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Isabela State University (ISU) station in Ichague, Isabela; Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga; Aborlan, Palawan; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; Masbate City, Masbate; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao may have a dangerous heat index of 42°C.

PAGASA warned the public that heat indices ranging from 42-51°C may lead to heat stroke due to continued exposure.

It defines the heat index as the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.

PAGASA recorded the country’s highest heat index so far this year of 48°C in Roxas City, Capiz, on March 27.
