Alternergy, NGCP ink interconnection deal for Tanay wind project

Following the recent interconnection deal for the Alabat wind project, Alternergy Holdings Corp. (Alternergy) signed a new deal with the National Grid Corporation (NGCP) for the Tanay Wind Power Project in Rizal.

Alternergy’s subsidiary, the Alternergy Tanay Wind Corpo. (ATWC), and the NGCP recently signed an interconnection agreement (ICA) to pursue the 100-megawatt (MW) Tanay wind project.

ATWC President Knud Hedeager said that the fast ICA signing poses giant strides for clean energy.

“We are delighted to receive NGCP’s approval to connect considering the current transmission challenges for any power project… [Their] approval is a positive response to fostering connectivity for renewable energy projects and increased critical energy infrastructures,” he said.

The renewable energy (RE) pioneer will push through its development phase after receiving the certificate of confirmation of commerciality (CoCoC) from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the completion and signing of commercial contracts like the wind turbine supply deal and the balance of plant engineering, procurement, and construction contract.

NGCP President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anthony Almeda shared the energy firm’s readiness to assist Alternergy in the project.

“Similar to the ICA for the Alabat Wind Power Project, NGCP stands to provide assistance to

Alternergy’s Tanay Wind Power Project which will contribute substantial renewable capacity to the grid to bolster the country’s energy sufficiency and sustainability,” he said.

According to Almeda, the NGCP is mandated to expand the capacity and reliability of the grid to welcome newer generation projects.

Because of the signed agreement, the Tanay Wind Power Project is set to be completed by yearend 2025.

Meanwhile, Alternergy’s 64 MW Alabat Wind Power Project in Quezon had a signed ICA with the NGCP to dispatch clean energy.
