VP Sara, Brawner visit fallen Navy aviators in Cavite chopper crash

Vice President Sara Duterte and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. paid their respects to the two Philippine Navy (PN) aviators who died in a helicopter crash in Cavite City on April 11.
Duterte visited the wake of Lieutenant Jan Kyle Q. Borres, 36, and Ensign Izzah Leonah S. Taccad, 27, at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Saturday, April 13.
“The VP expressed her deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families and to the Philippine Navy for the loss of the two naval aviators, and acknowledged their honorable service and sacrifice to the nation,” PN spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos said on Sunday, April 14.
Meanwhile, Brawner also dropped by at the wake last April 12.
He extended sympathies to the families of the fallen pilots and assured them of the AFP’s full support.
“Emphasizing the paramount importance of safety, the Philippine Navy reaffirmed its dedication to rigorous aircraft inspections and maintenance protocols to ensure airworthiness. They have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences,” AFP public affairs office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said.
Borres and Taccad were the pilots and co-pilots of PN training helicopter Robinson R22 NHT421 which crashed at a public market in Cavite City on Thursday.
An investigation team was created by Commodore Juario C. Marayag, commander of the Naval Air Wing, to determine the cause of the crash.
