Cris Nievarez, who competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, banners the small delegation also composed of Joanie Delgaco, Rynjie Peñaredondo and Zuriel Sumintac as they eye Paris tickets in the said continental qualification.
Nievarez guns for a return trip to the Games when he competes anew in the men’s single sculls, while Delgaco tries her luck in the women’s singles sculls. Peñaredondo and Sumintac, meanwhile, join forces to compete in the lightweight double sculls.
The Philippines has so far nine athletes qualifying to the Olympics with the said four rowers hoping to join them in the world’s grandest sporting event.
Coinciding the tournament is the 2024 Asian Rowing Cup, where the country is fielding eight rowers.
Competing in the men’s quadruple sculls will be Athens Tolentino, RJ Acosta, Van Maxilom and Edgar Ilas, while battling in the women’s side are Kristine Paraon, Amelyn Pagulayan, Feiza Lenton and Tammy Sha.
Tolentino and Maxilom are also seeing action in the men’s double sculls, as well as Paraon and Pagulayan, and Sha and Lenton in the women’s double sculls.
