MPD deploys more personnel for transport strike, implementation of 'e-trike, e-bike ban' on April 15

The Manila Police District (MPD) deployed additional personnel to ensure public safety and security during the commencement of transport strike and road restriction on electric tricycles and bicycles, pushcarts, kuligligs and pedicabs on Monday, April 15.
Two major transport groups MANIBELA and PISTON scheduled a transport strike on April 15, to express their dismay over President Marcos' pronouncement that there will be no further extension of the franchise consolidation deadline on April 30.
MPD Chief Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay said they will also provide pick-up trucks to assist stranded passengers amid the strike.
"We will maximize our presence in our major thoroughfares and will be offering libreng sakay in coordination with our LGU. In the enforcement of ban on e trikes, we will closely coordinating with the Manila Traffic Parking Bureau (MTPB)," he said.
Buses and transporters from MTPB, and Manila Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (MDRRMO) will also give free rides to commuters.
Some schools and universities in Manila announced the shift to online classes on Monday, which stemmed from the Department of Education (DepEd) implementation of asynchronous classes or distance learning in all public schools nationwide from April 15 to 16.
"In order to allow learners to complete pending assignments, projects, and other requirements as the end of school year is fast-approaching, all public schools nationwide shall implement asynchronous classes/ distance learning on April 15 to 15," the advisory read.
DepEd noted that private schools have the discretion to implement the same.
Meanwhile, the Manila traffic bureau reminded motorcycle riders that the implementation of motorcycle clamping will also start on Monday.
It noted that illegally parked motorcycles in tow-away zones and other restricted areas throughout the City of Manila will be clamped, while drivers will be fined P900.
