Man gathering clams drowns on Cagayan River


ENRILE, Cagayan – Authorities are conducting a search and rescue operation for a 20-year-old man who drowned on the Cagayan River in Barangay Maddarulug Sur here on Saturday, April. 13.

Don Erickson Orje of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) in this town said the victim went to the river with two others to gather clams.

The victim suddenly suffered leg cramps and was carried away by the strong river current. His colleagues tried to rescue him but failed.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Task Force Lingcod Cagayan-Quick Response Team (TFLC-QRT), and police mounted the search and rescue operation.
