Governor Daniel R. Fernando on Sunday released memorandum DRF-04132024-164 to address all city and municipality mayors including public and private school officials in the province of Bulacan to continue the asynchronous or distant learning on Monday and Tuesday, April 15 and 16, due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Fernando said this is in connection with the Provincial Government of Bulacan's monitoring of the heat index experienced throughout the province, and likewise following the order of the Department of Education (DepEd) that all levels in public schools are instructed to implement asynchronous classes or distance learning.
He pointed out that based on the weather forecast for the next few days, the heat index continued reaching 38 to 40 degrees celsius, especially in the afternoon which is still in the "extreme heat caution" category.
Meanwhile, the private schools are not covered by the said DepEd instruction but are encouraged to have the option to implement the same.
The Bulacan governor said the purpose of this is to avoid the delay of students' activities based on schools' schedules.
In the implementation, it is strongly advised to ensure and prioritize the safety and health of the students in the continuation of their activities.
Fernando reminded not only the students but also residents Bulacan-wide to drink water and follow preventive measures such as wearing fresh clothes and using of umbrella when going outside their homes for important business only.
"Ito ay upang maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng problema sa kalusugan dulot ng mainit na panahon tulad ng heat cramps, heat exhaustion at kung magpapatuloy maaring tumuloy sa heat stroke," (This is to prevent health problems caused by hot weather such as heat cramps, and heat exhaustion that may lead to heat stroke), he said.
Fernando added that everyone must be alert, and for those who need help from the government, all they have to do is coordinate with the governor's office or the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).
