“The use of the alternate uniform is allowed due to the hot weather conditions the country is experiencing,” DepEd said.

The alternate uniform is a collared DepEd polo shirt, which has been used in past events and activities, such as “Brigada Eskwela,” “Palarong Pambansa,” “Oplan Balik Eskwela,” and regional or division and school conferences.

As per DepEd, these shirts can be paired with matte black pants, regardless of the fabric such as slacks, jeans, or cargo pants.

It said the guidelines are based on the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 19, s. 2000, or the "Revised Dress Code Prescribed for All Government Officials and Employees in the Workplace," where it prohibits the use of leggings, tights, and jogging pants.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that “warmer” days may be expected in the coming days.

Based on the PAGASA’s extended weather outlook from April 16 to 18, the actual air temperatures in some key areas are 24–36°C in Metro Manila.
