Fire Officer 2 Joseph Salarda, chief of the intelligence and investigation section of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Binalbagan, said the 76-year-old victim was trapped inside her bedroom when the fire broke out around 11 p.m.
Salarda said the victim was alone at home after her companions went outside.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire but Salarda said it allegedly originated from the kitchen.
Salarda said the victim’s 51-year-old neighbor who was roused from sleep by the fire tried to prevent the blaze from spreading but it was too late. He sustained second-degree burns.
Four houses were destroyed and damage to property was placed at P282,000. Fire out was declared at 12:35 a.m.
