Pangasinan town holds Kankanen Festival


ASINGAN, Pangasinan – This town held the Kankanen Festival here on Saturday, April 13.

People braved the scorching heat to partake of 464 bilaos or circular trays of homemade rice cakes.

Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. here said each of 21 barangays in this town prepared its own kankanen recipe.

The festival is celebrated annually as thanksgiving to agricultural blessings and promote tourism.

This town produces sticky rice, an ingredient of kankanen. 

Romel Aguilar, information officer here, said that they are eyeing to establish the world record for the longest-lined native rice cake in the festival next year.
