Taguig celebrates Melon Festival with farmers

The Taguig City government, through its Agriculture Office, held the annual Melon Festival on April 11 to mark another bountiful harvest.

The event was held at the Melon Farm on Laguna Lake Highway (C6 Road) in Barangay Wawa, Taguig.

Mayor Lani Cayetano attended the celebration with the melon farmers.

“Masarap isipin na modern na ang panahon ay mayroon pa rin na tradisyon, bahagi ito ng ating kasaysayan na di nalilimutan at dapat lang na di malimutan (It is nice to think that in modern times, we still have the tradition, which is part of our history that will never be and should never be forgotten)” said Cayetano.

More than 60 melon farmers showed their harvest coupled with the performances of dancers and drummers.

For this season, farmers cultivated more than 66 hectares, which yielded 1,669 metric tons of melon.
