Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos happily posted on Facebook about the number of people that his office has helped under the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
The presidential son's post on Wednesday, April 10 revealed that over P34 million worth of SLP funds have been green-lit for release in his district.
"Empowering communities through sustainable livelihoods! Thrilled to announce our continuous payout for Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in partnership with DSWD, benefiting 1811 individuals across District 1 with opportunities worth 34,326,400," Rep. Marcos wrote.
Rep. Marcos is the senior deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives.
The DSWD website describes SLP as "a community-based program, which provides capacity building to improve the program participants’ socio-economic status".
The precursor to the SLP was the Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran (SEA-K) Program. It was one of the DSWD's core social protection programs geared to combat poverty.
The SLP is implemented through a two-track program. The first track, the Microenterprise Development Track, supports micro-enterprises in becoming organizationally and economically viable. Meanwhile, the second track, the Employment Facilitation Track, assists participants to access appropriate employment opportunities.
