Philippine Navy honors deceased personnel in fatal chopper crash; probe team formed

The Philippine Navy (PN) on Friday, April 12, paid tribute to its two personnel who died in a tragic helicopter crash in Cavite City.
The remains of Lieutenant Jan Kyle Q. Borres and Ensign Izzah Leonah S. Taccad, pilots and co-pilots of the crashed PN training helicopter Robinson R22 NHT421, were brought to the Libingan ng Mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
“The remains of our naval aviators arrived at the LNMB this morning and were rendered arrival honors,” PN spokesperson Commander John Percie Alcos said.
An investigation team was created by Commodore Juario C. Marayag, commander of the Naval Air Wing, to determine the cause of the crash.
Alcos did not provide details as to the status of the probe but the Navy earlier said that it would leave no stone unturned to uncover the truth behind the crash.
Borres and Taccad were piloting the trainer helicopter during a training flight in the morning of April 11 when the incident occured.
According to the Navy, the aircraft had to make an emergency landing but crashed at the vicinity of the Cavity City Public Market around 6 a.m.
The aircraft took off from Sangley Airport in Cavite.
Borres and Taccad were rushed to a nearby hospital by responding teams from the Philippine Fleet and Naval Air Wing but they did not make it.
“We pray for comfort and strength to surround the families and loved ones of Lt. Borres and Ensign Taccad during this time of profound grief and loss. Thank you for your service to the nation,” the Navy said.
