Mayor Honey wants to revive Divisoria as 'fabric and textile capital' via 'Rampa Manila'
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan launched “Rampa Manila 2” with the hope of reviving the former label of Divisoria as the country's fabric and textile capital and its reputation as the go-to place for all items when creating clothes.

Lacuna-Pangan said on Thursday, April 11, that the fashion show will be held on June 19 as part of the activities for the celebration of the city's founding anniversary on June 24.
She said the event will feature renowned and emerging local designers. It also aims to encourage amateur designers to show their talents in fashion.
"The ultimate goal is para itaas ang antas ng fashion designs sa Pilipinas at bigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga bata na gustong pumasok sa industriya na ito, kaya thank you sa inyo for taking the challenge (The ultimate goal is to uplift the level of fashion designs in the country and give opportunities to youth who want to enter this industry, so thank you for taking the challenge)," the mayor told the designers.
The mayor herself said that she is an avid fan of local designs and she visits “tiangges” or bazaars during her free time to buy clothes. She showed as an example the one she wore at the launch.
One of the established designers who will spearhead the event is Bang Pineda, who said that this year's theme is “Texture, Textile, and Technique.”
Pineda urged designers to buy their materials at Divisoria and take photos in order to promote the place to other designers.
He also said that they are just as eager as the mayor to introduce the youth to the fashion industry.
"Before, puntahan talaga ang Divisoria for any kind of textile, but over the years, nag-dwindle talaga (Previously, people went to Divisoria for any kind of textile, but it dwindled over the years)," the mayor also stated.
"We are inviting future designers to go back to where it all started and help our microbusinesses jump back to their former status as a flourishing industry," she added.
Meanwhile, the mayor said that unlike in 2023, she will no longer take a ramp this year and decided to be just an audience to enjoy the upcoming fashion show.
"Been there, done that. Hindi na po... nasubukan ko na… there are other models who will do more justice,” she said.
Lacuna-Pangan believed that there are many good designers in Manila who are just waiting to be discovered and given the proper opportunity to showcase their talent.
The designers who attended the launch thanked the city mayor for giving support and effort to the fashion industry, as well as providing them with their own platform to showcase their designs.
