Department of Tourism (DOT)-Western Visayas Regional Director Crisanta "Krisma" Marlene P. Rodriguez participated in this week’s Seatrade Cruise Global in Florida, United States.
Rodriguez joined the Philippine delegation which has a 900-square foot pavilion that gives attendees a visual and interactive experience of what the country has to offer for cruise tourism and beyond.
The region is home to world-famous Boracay Island.
The resort-island in Malay town, Aklan province is a major stop for international cruise liners making a day-stop.
Foreign tourists usually have an eight-hour tour of the stretch of white sand beach, the souvenir shops, and the restaurants in Boracay.
Aside from cruise tours, the DOT-6 under Rodriguez is promoting eco-tourism through the Western Visayas International Open Water Swim.
The four-leg swimming competition promotes the beach and island destinations of Boracay Island as well as Sipalay in Negros Occidental province, Sicogon Island in Carles town, Iloilo province, and Taklong Island in Nueva Valencia town, Guimaras province.
